Dominic Cleary  –  Shiatsu, Tai Chi & Qigong Practitioner

Dominic Cleary

Dominic Cleary is offering shiatsu treatments from a new venue in Hexham. http://thetherapycentrehexham.com/ and http://www.facebook.com/TheTherapyCentreHexham?hc_location=stream and @hexhamtherapy on twitter.

As a special introductory price, shiatsu is half price for two months, £22.50, last one hour, and appointments are Friday afternoons only starting at 1pm.

There is also a great cafe there, as well as many other therapies/classes on offer.

Please check the website below for details of Tai Chi and Qigong classes. Contact details are also available on the site.

Why are Asian therapies like shiatsu becoming more popular at the moment? Shiatsu came from a particular kind of bodywork originally from Japan. Like many other countries around the world, they never had (and still don’t!) any type of NHS  like we do. People had to learn from handed down traditions how to help each other stay healthy, hence the understanding of the idea of ‘balance’ in our everyday life. What does this mean? Balance in life does not mean some precious, tightly held idea of ‘perfect life’ – if anything the opposite. It means a recognition that the within our nature, inside and outside us, are some powerful dynamics that pull us this way and that. This became best represented by the dynamic of yin and yang, originated in China in the 11th century. (Tai Chi is all about developing and fostering a particular feeling for the interplay of these two forces, yin and yang.) The aim of shiatsu, is to help ourselves to support the body’s own natural, self regulating ‘balance’ system, (called homeostasis). Shiatsu recognises that imbalances in any aspect of our being, physical, emotional, mental and even spiritual, can have a profound impact on our health. Sometimes we know what the imbalance is, and where it comes from in ourselves, and sometimes it’s a complete mystery – we even have a word ‘dis-ease’ which partly explains this. Either way, a helping hand, an impartial view from another, by way of a treatment can be of great help. Even symptoms that are longstanding can benefit from shiatsu by helping to relieve unnecessary suffering.
Dominic is a member of the national regulatory body of shiatsu, The Shiatsu Society, recognised by the initial M.R.S.S.

Yoga Sparsha – Hatha Yoga, Yoga Therapy Teacher & Practitioner

paul rathbone

Hatha Yoga – pranayama, meditation, mindfulness, relaxation and yoga therapy; seeking to bring about the union of all that is separated.

My name is Paul Rathbone and I am a fully qualified and experienced Hatha Yoga Teacher trained with the British Wheel of Yoga. I am currently studying yoga therapy with the Anubhava organisation under Yogacharya Dr. M.V. Bhole of India. My teaching style is influenced by the great yoga teachers from India’s ancient past, by several modern teachers from the West, but mostly by the students I teach. Hatha Yoga gives us the opportunity to unite and strengthen our scattered and dissipated energies, allowing us to become whole and reach our full potential. When we reach this state of Union our inner light shines bright, and we are better able to help others.

I teach public and private classes in North Durham and hold regular workshops. I also conduct yoga therapy sessions for individuals on request. I also provide online information and support through the Yoga Sparsha website, featuring podcasts, downloads and videos.

Jeans Clippy Mats

dragonflymat 008

My work is all hand made using original techniques,my inspiration for the craft coming from the mats we all had on the floor in the50s.Each piece is unique as they are all designed, drawn, transfered and worked by me-though they may be inspired by other artisits. I am happy to talk to you if have a particular design, theme or colour scheme in mind for a commissioned piece of work.
The mats are decorative but also very functional as door mats, small rugs ,runners on the floor or furniture covers to enhance ottomans, benches .They are so decorative some people prefer to just hang them on the wall, the choice is yours.

clippymat collection 018   quiche and tarts 003

I use mainly recycled material though occasionally I may need to buy fabric in order to obtain a particular colour or texture .I hope you enjoy my clippy mats and appreciate that the price takes into account the many hours of work it takes to produce even a small item. You will be getting a totally unique piece of functional art work .They make ideal gifts or just something you can enjoy and live with for many years.
prices range from £20 to £120 depending on size and detail of subject – most mats are approx 40 x 60cms and are £40.
